Operation Eden
A few years ago there was this big storm called Katrina. Maybe you remember it? Well, I came across this blog way back in 2005, called Operation Eden. I have been following it since the beginning now, and it is still being updated today with new info on the fight to clean up after Katrina and the botched efforts of our Governments response, Fema, etc.
My Wife and I donated over $300.00 worth of supplies and mailed them down to Pearlington, in an effort to help out. It was all we could afford at the time, but we felt no matter what we contributed, it would get put to good use by someone in need. So we headed over to the store, bought a bunch of items that were on the list of needs, and mailed them off. This was probably somewhere around October of 2005. We printed flyers and put them up wherever we could. We told people about what was going on and how they needed help in Pearlington.
Today, the rebuilding process is still taking place, with the residents putting in as much of the work as the volunteers who are building their houses for them. I only wish I had the money and time to go down there, even though I know nothing about building a house, I would like to at least help put up just one house for someone in need.
If you want to read more about what they are doing, and to see first hand pics, video, and stories directly form someone who lives/lived there, then check out this blog: http://operationeden.blogspot.com/ by Clayton Cubitt
They still need our help, and volunteers who can rebuild, so if you have anything you can contribute, no matter how small it may be, even if just spreading the info by word of mouth or reposting on your blog, then please do so. Every little bit helps!
