    Spam Techniques

Lately I have seen a trick the spammers have been using. One that, while it may very old, I have just realized this on my own. I often dismiss things like this, but if you ever check the links a spammer posts, you will sometimes see they do not go directly to a site for the product. Instead, they give a link to a forum profile, where the profile itself then contains an add or link to the products page itself. Sneaky, but its an extraordinary attempt to thwart spam filters. Unfortunately for them, they are weak minded enough to use keywords for the products in the spam, so while it might defeat filters for the site links using a third party page such as a forum profile, they “phail” on all fronts when they use these keywords for the products themselves.

Either way, they fail, because its all automated, and no spammer bothers to take the time to check their work once they automate the process. They just let the scripts do all the work, in hopes of either compromising more nodes or getting click-thru money for the links.

What other Spam Techniques have you seen over the years? Please comment.
