I use a HOSTS file to block ads and sites on a regular basis. Now, any site I add can be blocked. Or at least I thought so. One such site, has eluded me on several machines. http://67.228.130.66/
Navigate to the site. It will say, “I Can Has Ads?”.
Now add it to your HOSTS file to block it via an entry like
“127.0.0.1 67.228.130.66″
Ok. Save your hosts file. You can even try clearing your browser cache and closing and reopening(won’t make a difference). I tried this in three browsers, they all still connect to the site. I even tried it on several different computers. The only thing I can see that could be overriding it, is there is something in windows that greelights the IP range beginning with “67.228″ as multiple ad sites for that beginning range, bypass the windows HOSTS file. I have ended up using my firewall to block the entire IP block, and now the site does not load.
Test this on your own system and please comment your results. Linux uses can try this as well. I believe the hosts file for Linux is in “/etc/hosts” but don’t quote me on that, I haven’t bothered to look yet.
If your system does block it via HOSTS file in windows, please let me know. If it doesn’t please comment anyway, as I want to know who has the same problem.
