    OffByOne

Who still use pre html 4 browsers?

Really people? Someone is actually still using the OffByOne browser? Wasn’t that dead on arrival?

“Mozilla/4.7 (compatible; OffByOne; Windows 2000) Webster Pro V3.4″

Either that or someone wants to spoof their user agent.

Not to mention the person using it seemed to be purposely visiting pages that do not exists on my server. Just seemed odd to me, but maybe I should be blocking the user agent anyway. Google shows nothing but comment spammers from the IP of the person visiting, so it would seem they have ill intent to begin with.

    Boycott Energizer D-cell rechargable batteries!

    12 dollars for a D-Cell hiding a Double-A inside, yet the Double-A costs just 1/4th the cost of a D-Cell.

    http://www.naturalnews.com/PhotoTour_Energizer_Batteries_2.html

Wouldn’t this be false advertising on Energizers part? I mean, wouldn’t there be some kind of class action lawsuit against this sort of thing?

Cell Phone Poll, what is your favorite phone and why?

Ok, so this isn’t so much a poll as it is a free for all. I am not limiting this to like 5 phones to choose from, but all phones. What is your favorite cell phone and why? I am in the market for a new phone, but I only have a few requirements and don’t need all the extra jazz that comes with these things.

I currently have an old faithful Nokia that is heavy, monochrome screened and a battery that lasts a week at a time on one charge, so you can see where I am going with this.

    Do’s:
Must do email/web browsing. Must be able to tether to my laptop so that I can use it while working from the road. Must be sturdy. Must have full qwerty keyboard! GPS woudl be nice, but is not a requirement. 3G would also be nice, but again, not a true requirement. Ergonomics/ease of use and comfortable to talk with. I hate ear pieces, so it has to be comfortable to hold as well as talk with.

    Don’ts:
Do not need bluetooth, its a security risk to begin with, and I have no intention of shuttleing files to and from devices nor using an ear piece. No flimsy, thin, break if I set on it cell phones. I don’t need a camera, I own a real camera for taking pictures(Nikon D60), I don’t need an MP3 player on my phone or storage for music, but file storage for apps like word/excel/pdf reading and editing is a plus. Don’t need to be able to watch video on it either.

Reply to this post with your thoughts, ideas, opinions and reviews. Please list pros and cons of your current phone and why you still use it.

edit: Ok, these are good, but I need more convincing reasons on why I would swtich to any of these. Please list what you like and dislike about your phone. Be honest, because if there is something you don’t like, it may be a deal breaker for me. I don’t want to shell out the money for something, only to find out there are some issues with the phone.

Google Biz Kit Scams, don’t buy into them

I sell ads on my site. I make like 3 cents amonth, but I let it go because its 3 cents mroe than I had with no ads, so whatever, its a start. I noticed one of the ads that showed up was not something I approved, but that doesn’t surprise me, I can’t police every advertisers ads because they rotate them themselves via the third party who buys space from Adbrite(thats a whole other ball of wax I don;t evne want to get into).

So, I see this ad for the “Google Biz Kit”, make money at home, blah blah blah, as seen on TV(which is a lie). I followed it, just to see what BS they were trying to sell. The Google Biz Kit(as well as the Twitter kit and eBay kit) is a scam people! Stop sending them your credit card information! Stop buying these get rich quick kits! They do not work, and only put your crdit at risk!

See here for more details on how the scam works:

    Hacker Attacks on my site…

Well, it seems my site is a high target by Indonesian, Korean, Russian, Saudi Arabian and Italiano hacker groups(to name just a few). Once recent attack (that failed, by the way) led me to Italy, where I found all their scripts they use to attack other web sites ( http://labor.labcei.unimore.it/68049/guppy467/users/ proxied behind the 61.250.92.0/24 network). The scripts use a flaw in PHP where they append the url of their scripts to the url of a persons php page on their site, often targetting Word Press and Joomla. Once done, if the site is vulnerable, it creates a back door for them into the site, as well as sends back all the details of the vulnerable sites OS information (uname -a) to an IRC channel.

I managed to figure out where this IRC channel was and sat in for a little while this afternoon. I watched, as automated bots sent in links to websites that are vulnerable to their attack. Im on the fence as to what I should do at this point. On one hand, I’d like to turn them in, but on the other hand, I doubt anything will be done considering these people are from over seas, and are probably masking their true IP address.

Here is one latest attacker today on my site,
    Date: 08/19/09 13:37:58
    IP: 124.244.251.180
    Hostname-Resolved: 124244251180.ctinets.com
    Browser: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; MRA 4.6 (build 01425); MRSPUTNIK 1, 5, 0, 19 SW)

If you go here: http://www.ip2location.com/demo.aspx , you will see that they are from Hong Kong(or proxied from there).

Its difficult to police the web, and I have no intention of doing so. I don’t get paid to do so, and really could care less what these people do, so long as they can’t get into my site, but another side of me would like to see some justice in the matter.

So, block your websites from Korean, russia and china subnets, and be on the lookout for any traffic coming from an ip address of 72.9.225.69. That IP belongs to several websites that sit on the one IP, all from the same hacker crew who go by the name of “racrew” or “radio@ctive crew”. if you have a wordpress or joomla site, be sure you are patched 100%!

YouTube bites the bit bucket today, logins not working for a lot of people

Well, apparently YouTube changed their logon process. Now, instead of logging in through YouTube, they redirect you to google.com On top of that, the login does not work. I have tried it on two different browsers now, and apparently it seems to be an SSL related issue. Have they been hacked? Who knows, but YouTube has become ‘the suck’ lately, and this is kind of the nail in the coffin for me. All I want to do now is delete my videos and move the rest of my stuff off to blip. Blip is a great site for watching videos, but their gui for the site is a bit lacking. I wish they could take the comment and interface from YT and merge it with their video player. The blip comment system does not seem to work properly, and the social aspect is a bit lacking on blip as well, but I love the option to download the original files as well as converting them to flash.

    Cisco tests are hard

Well, I took my first of two tests Saturday, and passed with a 902 out of 1000. Im a bit slow at taking these tests, and probably spend too much time on each question.

I scheduled my second exam for this morning. That was probably a mistake. I got a great deal on a voucher for $85.00, but it was set to expire in a week. I didn’t have any other days I could go in to take it, so I put it in for Wednesday morning.

I work 8pm to 8am, so I worked all night, then left work to go straight to the testing center. Needless to say, I should have waited until a day when I was rested and fresh, because I ended up running out of time about half way through the exam. I finished about 25 of the 41 questions, and received a 670 out of 1000. I needed an 825 or better to pass. Had I been able to finish all the questions, I am confident I could have passed the test. That is no excuse for my failure though, because I should have known better to prepare for this test.

Now that I have been through it once, I am going to wait a few weeks before taking it again. I want to be sure that I am fully rested and I am goign to practice as much as I can between now and the day I retake the test. I am not looking forward to another fail, as I have taken two cert tests and passed both with great ease, this one will be something I have to take more seriously and really study up on.
